Native mycorrhizal fungi improve milkweed growth, latex, and establishment while some commercial fungi may inhibit them

چکیده

Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi are root symbionts that can facilitate plant growth and influence communities by altering interactions with herbivores. Therefore, AM could be critical for the conservation of certain rare plants For example, North American milkweed species crucial hosts monarch butterflies (Danaus plexippus). Understanding how composition affects milkweeds will have direct impacts on restoration both increasingly threatened guilds. We present data from three studies effect fungal growth, latex production, establishment. First, we grew seven without a mixture native fungi. assessed important is to production growing four compositions, as single-species inoculations fungi, single commercial fungus presumably non-native origin, noninoculated controls. Finally, field establishment two inoculation. Milkweed 98% larger produced 82% more after inoculation mycorrhizae. Milkweeds were strongly affected composition; inhibited (average ?14% growth) showed variable but positive responses +3% +38% biomass). found was dependent species. Overall, our findings indicate some (i.e., Asclepias syriaca A. incarnata) not responsive presence or sensitive while others are, including endangered (A. meadii) high value tuberosa). conclude reintroduction improve desirable should considered within strategies plantings conservation.

Growth model for arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi

In order to quantify the contribution of arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi to plant phosphorus nutrition, the development and extent of the external fungal mycelium and its nutrient uptake capacity are of particular importance. We develop and analyse a model of the growth of AM fungi associated with plant roots, suitable for describing mechanistically the effects of the fungi on solute uptake b...

Mycorrhizal Fungi and Plant Nutrition

The term “mycorrhiza” was coined by A. B. Frank, a scientist in Germany, more than 100 years ago. It literally means fungus-root, and describes the mutualistic association existing between a group of soil fungi and higher plants. The association is based on the plant component providing carbohydrates and other essential organic compounds to the fungi. In return, the fungal component, which colo...

Selecting Native Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi to Promote Cassava Growth and Increase Yield under Field Conditions

The use of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal (AMF) inoculation in sustainable agriculture is now widespread worldwide. Although the use of inoculants consisting of native AMF is highly recommended as an alternative to commercial ones, there is no strategy to allow the selection of efficient fungal species from natural communities. The objective of this study was (i) to select efficient native AMF s...

Enhancement of clover growth by inoculation of P-solubilizing fungi and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi.

This study evaluated the synergism between several P-solubilizing fungi isolates and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi to improve clover ( Trifolium pratense) growth in the presence of Araxá apatite. Clover was sown directly in plastic pots with 300g of sterilized washed sand, vermiculite and sepiolite 1:1:1 (v:v:v) as substrate, and grown in a controlled environment chamber. The substrate was ferti...

Symbiosis relationship between some arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and Salsola laricina and its effect on improving plant growth parameters

The aim of this study was to examine the symbiosis relationshipbetween some arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and Salsola laricina (Chenopodiaceae), a non-mycotrophic plant speciesand its effect on improving plant growth parameters. Initially, the development of AMF density was monitored through two parameters including evaluation of mycorrhizal colonization of plant roots and density measurem...
